This Mel Gibson movie is set in ancient times in America. It is his interpretation of paintings etc., what caught my attention was the masks, body and face paint and bones used for decoration and for scaring enemy tribes. It made me think that human beings can create quite a fierce aspect using all these devices and may be the rakhshasas also resorted to the same strategy to scare enemies?
It also brought back the recurrent theme everywhere on how the agriculturists dominated the hunter gatherers. This occurs even today in modern India with ancient tribes (adivasis). They are herded, lands taken away, “civilized” – which means their culture is stolen and they are started at the bottom of the social scale or taught the use of firearms and how to die for the ideologies of others. They are also subject to conversions etc, by people who think they are helping them. I wish they were left alone and their areas protected. We have more to learn from them, than they have from us.
An absolute truth regarding the Tribes. Numerous tribes with Unexpected amount of knowledge might have been erased from the face of earth even before many as us might not have known that some tribe of such advanced status ever co-existed with us……… Respect everyone, irrespective of their appearance n multiple differences………… Knowledge doesn’t need to look glorious or please any eyes to be itself.
