Ganesha book by Sakunthala Jagannathan and her daughter Nandita Krishnan. My neighbour lent me this book yesterday and it is very interesting. The ladies have collected a vast number of stories and theories about Ganesha as well as his accessories, drawings and photos of sculptures of Ganesha from Afganisthan to Japan including especially India, then China, Mongolia, Burma, Cambodia, Nepal…. and Java.
I will have to think about and cross verify their theories., before I write about them, but I thoroughly enjoyed looking though this book. I think it sells for Rs 210 in Gangarams (based on the sticker at the back of the book)., and they let you look through the book there before you decide whether you want to buy it or not.
I knew that Ganesha was also a God of the Jains, but I did not previously know his connection with Mahayana Buddhism.
Completely off at a tangent here, but the Jain temple in Devanahalli has images of Ganesha, Lakshmi and Sarawathi too. It is the Hindu trinity that I do not recall seeing anywhere. It is something that I need to find out about.
Ganesha in Buddhist tales, Nepal, Tibet, etc.. with pictures.
