If you Adopt a Girl Child., she could be Sita Devi or Sakuntala!

King Janaka found Sita Devi, when he was tilling the soil, her baby body covered with mud. He found her in the soil, with no clue as to her parentage or her jathi. He raised her as a princess. He gave her in marriage as a Virya Sulka, one whose bride price was valour.  No dowry. He gave her to the best hero in the land, Sri Rama.

He was happy to give his own daughter Urmila to Lakshmana and his brother’s own daughters Mandavi and Sritakirthi to Sri Rama’s younger brothers. Not a touch of genetic partiality! He raised her so well. And she brought great fame and honour to her father’s name and was known for ever as Janaki and Maithili.

Kanva found the baby Sakuntala surrounded by birds, she married a King (Dushyanta) and was the mother of Sarvadamana Bharata after whom our country is said to be named.

So if someone you know is planning to adopt a child, give them some courage and confidence. Give them these examples.
