I have been updating the page How many kinds of Yugas are there? regularly for a few months now.
Today, I created a new page, How many kinds of Sakas are there? (These are in no way related to the Scythians- or the Saka Jathi).
Saka means era, and there were many kinds of Sakas in India all based on human events (conquests, births and deaths), as opposed to all the different kinds of Yugas which were based on astronomical events (graha alignments and conjunctions.)
The entire art and science of muhurta selection in India is an attempt to align human events with astronomical events.
Whether it is the moment fixed for joining a job, getting married, conception, Sri Rama’s coronation or in Bhishma’s case passing on to a brighter world, everyone determines an auspicious moment (a muhurta duration is 48 minutes), as determined by an astronomical event and acts accordingly.
