Reference Agni Purana : “Vishnu, Brahma, Marichi, Kashyapa, Surya, Vaivasvata Manu, Ikshvaku, Kakutstha, Raghu, Aja, Dasharatha, Rama.
Vasishtha was one of the rishis who, Vaiwaswata Manu saved from the flood and brought North from the South (Malaya Parvata foothills – Dravida)
From this list we see that Rama was 7th generation from Vasishtha.
This is in line with my reasoning in the articles :
- Generations between Rama and Krishna.
- Generations previous to Sri Rama.
- How long did ancient Indians live?
I have long deduced that too many kings have been inserted in the direct line from Ikshvaku to Sri Rama, I think that this list in Agni Purana is more accurate, because it fits in with the rest of my reasoning. The other Ikshvaku kings may have been uncles, cousins and such like.
Vyasa heard the Agni Purana from his great grandfather Vasishta who got it from Agni Deva. Romaharshana, Paila, Suka and others learnt it from Vyasa in the Badrika Asrama.
Note : Good News for all of us who worry about Sita Devi, is that there is no talk of Sita’s banishment in the Agni Purana.
