I started with my attempt to translate the Vedas in Dec 2008. Today, 9 months later, I have managed to complete the translation of 9 lines (mantras), which constitute the first suktham of the Rk Veda. These were given to us by (or through) Madhucchanda, who was the son of Viswamitra.
They were collated into the first suktham by Veda Vyasa.
They are dedicated to the luminary Agni, which means the energy that pervades the universe. (In modern Indian languages derivatives of the word Agni – aag, aggi etc – refer to fire). In Vedic sanskrit, agni refers to the all pervading energy, including the energy of the ocean waves and the digestive fire. The first suktham recognises all that Energy is physically and then prays to that Energy for Svasti (good).
Vedic students contain both the scholars and the believers. I started with an intention to be a scholar I think, but the sheer beneficient effect of the mantras, (mantra-sakthi), cannot be ignored. And I am not just talking about health etc.
