Vitahavya and Divodasa

Vitahavya is a Vedic Rshi, we have received some Veda Mantras through him. But he was born a king, in the race of Vaivaswatha Manu and Saryati.

Divodasa is a king mentioned in the Vedas.

The story of the fight between the kings of Kasi (Divodasa’s family) and kings of Vatsa (Vitahavya’s family) ending with Vitahavya’s conversion to a brahmana, by Bhrgu is very interesting.

I found it very interesting and wrote it here : today : Divodasa and Vitahavya (Haihaya)

It is also interesting to note that Bhrgu and Bharadwaja were on opposite camps not just in their views about caste! (Bhrgu was ‘for’ caste hierarchies, Bharadwaja was ‘against’ caste hierarchies).

And that such a Bhrgu converted Vitahavya from a Kshatriya to a brahman!!

Also, in context, but not in this story, is that Cyavana, Bhrgu’s son, converted the Ashwini Twins from physicians to Devas, with a share of the Havis from Yajnas,  in return for youthfulness!
