Throughout the Ramayana, you have people advising one another not to grieve and the ill effects of grief. In the shlokas above from Kishkindakanda, Sri Rama is being advised not to grieve.
In the s’lokas below from the Bhagavad Gita, the same sentiment and phrase is repeated.
avyakto ’yam acintyo ’yam
avikaryo ’yam ucyate
tasmad evam viditvainam
nanusocitum arhasi
“It is said that the soul is invisible, inconceivable and immutable. Knowing this, you should not grieve for the body.”
dehi nityam avadhyo ’yam
dehe sarvasya bharata
tasmat sarvani bhutani
na tvam socitum arhasi
“O descendant of Bharata, he who dwells in the body can never be slain. Therefore you need not grieve for any living being.”
