First of all, best wishes to all of you. Krishna’s birthday is our birthday because he is our antaraatma, the paramaatma. Hope you have eaten plenty to feed the Vais’vaanara who has taken shelter in your bodies in order to digest all the nice things that you eat.
For some of us Krishna’s birthday is marked by ashtami, the day when the sun and moon are separated by 90 degrees. This occurs about 8 days after s’raavaNa pourNami. This is the Sri Krishnashtami of the smaarthaas.
For some of us Krishna’s birthday is marked by rohiNi nakshatram, which is 8 nakshatras away from s’ravaNa. This is the Sri Krishna Jayanti of the Vaishnavas.
On s’raavaNa pourNami, the moon is somewhat close to s’ravaNa nakshtaram on an average. If s’raavaNa nakshatra exactly falls on the s’raavaNa pUrNima., then about 8 days (nakshatras) later., ie on ashtami.. you will have rohiNi nakshatram.
rOhiNi is Chandra’s favorite wife. So on this special day, the moon as well as rOhiNI are worshipped.. did you know that?
Today I was the officiating priestess for my mom’ puja. And I noticed that some customs of this puja were different from Ganesha puja.
For example, you have to keep the tulasi leaf with a drop of water on your head at the beginning.
And if you do that you get the puNyam of bathing in all the tIrthAs as well as all the yagnya phalas. And in the end of the puja, you have to worship Chandra as Soma and as the husband of Rohini.
Today I also started the Karma Yoga chapter of the Bhagavad Gita for my eGurukulam students and I enrolled a new Bhagavad Gita student in the afternoon… and taught her the rishi-chandas-devata as well as karaadi and hrdayadi nyasas. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I like being a priestess and a guru.
I feel like I am in the Satya Yuga (Kruta Yuga). Jai Sri Krishna!! Jai Jai Sri Krishna!!
