Carnatic Music, Pranayama and Divine Orientation

praaNaayaama is the control of the air we breathe out.

For people with breathing difficulties.. it is somewhat easier to control the air we breathe in but really hard to control the pace and duration of the air we breathe out.

Pranayama helps such people specifically and other people too in general.

A wonderful observation I made yesterday is that it is extremely easy to breathe out slowly and rythmicaly when I am singing., especially carnatic music where the notes and rythym are so well designed.

Starting from the basic sa pa sa to the most elaborate of kirthanas.

A Huge Plus is that most of the songs express love of the Divine, As Rama, or Devi or Ganesha or Siva and so on.. so one’s mind turns to divinity.

A further plus is that the songs all summarise Vedanta which summarise the Vedas and are thus in synch with the Vedas.

What a wonderful treasure.
