Current Affairs : The Victims of Corruption Fight Back!

The State Machinery in India is corrupt all the way from top to bottom.

Indian corruption takes the miserable form where bribes are taken to do the right thing, whereas in foreign countries bribes are taken to do only wrong things.

Indian corruption is called grease, without it our machinery does not work.

One pompous politician said said show me a man “who has not given a bribe” implying that the giver is a crook not a victim. In India bribes are taken, like Anna Hazare said even from poor farmers to get their minimum due. Who can forget the scene from Lage Raho Munna Bhai where the old man starts taking off his clothes and watch etc to pay for a “bribe-demand” to get his justified pension? In today’s India, those who are forced to give bribes are largely victims. Not crooks. Movies like Kamala Hasan’s Indian, Chiranjeevi’s Tagore and so on show the helpless victims, whose papers are in order and who are forced to give “speed money/fees” just to get their legitimate work done by the state machinery.

The system is so perfect at all layers and levels that you can replace every human in it and the corruption will still survive. That is why the popular cinema solutions of “eliminate the corrupt” won’t work. This is why the French revolution method won’t work.

The political leaders alternately woo and sling mud at  the leaders of the Anti-Corruption campaign. They don’t realise that this is a class war. Between those who benefit from corruption and those who are victims of corruption.

Like the legendary Vanara Hero Vali who had the energy to absorb the energy of any opponent who confronted him, this Corruption Villain grows stronger with every bribe it takes.

Unlike the times of Parikshit, where Kali Purusha (not Kali Mata, for foreigners who mix them up), was given leave only to live in the “houses of vice”, today Corruption-Purusha adorns the palaces of the rulers to the courts of justice to the traffic police on street corners.

Today, for the first time in Indian History, the Victims of Corruption are fighting back under such leaders as they can find, with such methods as in their reach and for such tools as they think will solve the problem. Is it the Lokpal bill? Are Team Anna and Ramdev the right leaders? Is fasting the method to achieve it?

The “Victims of corruption layer” cannot fight elections or legal battles. They cannot be made-prime-ministers-though-unelected. They cannot write smart speeches and the media will not ask for their opinion. But they can stop “silently” suffering as they have been all these years and start “openly” suffering.

The state machinery no longer has the “Sanction-of-the-Victim” to quote Ayn Rand.

The British Lagaan (taxes) can’t have been as bad as the present “taxes plus value added taxes plus inflation plus corruption” that the “aam aadmi” has to face.

I don’t know what will happen. Once the Corruption Purusha eats up all the victims, then who is there left for it to prey on? Will it collapse upon itself, like a Sun that has converted all its Hydrogen to Helium and exhausted all its fuel? Or will it explode like a supernova  and spread to all other countries in the world?

Either way, “We will not disappear into the night! We will not go out without a fight!”.. Maybe “We, the people of India” will win! Jai Ho!
