Current Affairs : Freedom Park, Bangalore – A Sakthi Peetham : Anti-Corruption Movement : Anna Hazaare
When I started this blog AncientIndians, I thought even if one person is benefitted, I am blessed. Little did I know that, that one person is me!
When I went to Freedom park yesterday evening, I thought I must express support for Anna Hazaare. This pure-souled 74 year old and our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, must know where I stand on this issue. They must know that I stand with and for Annaji! When I wake on Krishnashtami morning, I must be able to face Krishna and tell him that I did myKarma. That I educated my conscience and obeyed it.
What actually happened was that I received all the love and support of pUtAtma Anna Hazaare, Jagadguru Sri Krishna and all the wonderful volunteers at Freedom Park. All the strength of the supporters poured into my being and I returned home feeling empowered.
As soon as I reached there, I was directed in an orderly way to sign the register so that I could “stand up and be counted”.

Then I was directed to the tent, where someone respectfully got up and gave me his seat. Throughout my hours there I was treated with respect and courtesy. The volunteers not only made sure that people were orderly, but in such a sweet way, that I felt I was actually a human being. Some painted cheeks with the Indian Flag, some picked up the litter that some less evolved people threw on the lawns, some formed a human chain to direct the flow of human beings. Some carried placards and some distributed pamphlets with details of the movement and the jan lokapal bill. Though there was such a big crowd everyone was careful not to touch or overcrowd each other. Though there were police everywhere, they had no work to do, because the volunteers did all the regulating, including directing traffic and helping people cross the roads. Jai Anna Hazaare! This is the world he has created to the extent that people follow him.
As I went in I saw an old man dancing to Aamir Khan’s Rang De Basanti Song from Rang de basanti movie : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW0sWGD99g0.
As I sat down, I saw people waving Indian Flags everywhere and heard people yelling Bolo Bharat Mata ki jai, Vande Mataram, Jai Hind and Inquilab Zindabad, I joined in, in a somewhat choked and restricted voice.
Then they played this song and I melted into a river of of painful tears, that I can never avoid whenever I hear this song.

I was still crying when some young people with beautiful voices took the stage and started singing very nice songs live. I don’t know the first song that they sang, but then they sang this song which I know and everyone joined in. I joined in too because I know most of the words and love this song.
Then this was the song they led us in singing.
As we sang this song, they switched off the loudspeakers, so that we could hear ourselves sing the chorus “Hum Hindusthani!”

What these people are doing for us and making us do is the single most important thing in the nation at this moment. Do yourself a favour and go and draw on that strength and spirit. These opportunities and occasions don’t come a million times in one’s life. I know, I have waited all my life.
Now I know I must go to delhi, to Ram Leela Maidan. I must see these great people. I must hear what they are saying, not that edited stuff that I get from news channels. If I have the opportunity, I must touch Annaji’s feet. I must give Kiran Bedi a hug for the heroine she has been to me for my whole life. And I must shake Arvind’s hand and say “thank you, thank you, thank you!” At least I must see them and they must see that there is one more head in this sea of people that is grateful for their lives and their efforts.
There were more songs and speeches, one by a swamiji that I don’t yet know about and one by Bharati Vishnuvardhan and at the end of each speech, they called on us to respond to Bolo Bharata Maata Ki Jai!
I wandered round the jail in which freedom fighters had been jailed and I wandered round the park, I had my face painted with the national flag.
As I left the park, I knew that did not matter what tv anchors said or detractors said or declared experts said or politicians said. All that matters is what we are going to do, what we are going to contribute.
Jai Hind! Jai Anna Hazaare!
Jai Sri Krishna! Happy Birthday!
