Today I took my parents to Freedom Park, so that they could also register their support for Anna Hazaare.

The auto guys took exact fare.

My parents were small children at the time India won independence and they remember the first independence day with a lot of joy and excitement.

They identified with the small school children chanting “Anna Hazaare ki Jai. Corruption get lost”.

My father was encouraged (dhairyam) by the fact that when there is a good leader, the youth will support them.

My mother said that the atmosphere was so pure. She said she was very happy to have been there.

My father wanted to make a donation to the cause. But the volunteers politely declined. They said we have enough money for the present. If we need funds, an announcement will be made. Don’t give anyone else also money.

This is one of the very very rare occasions in my life when someone has refused money for a cause, saying we have enough for now thank you.

There were auto drivers, house wives, senior citizens, college students, school children, girls and boys all their shouting their support for Anna Hazaare.

I took my parents round the central jail, which was incidentally built when the British Government needed extra jails to accommodate the Jail Bharo Andolan.

We heard the speech made by a 93 year old freedom fighter.

This small trip made my parents exceedingly happy. Do take your parents also. It will make them extremely happy.

I bought an Anna-Gandhi cap and wore it with a lot of joy.

As we came to IISc, I hesitated internally for a few minutes whether I would be asked to remove the cap or whether I ought to.

Then I remembered the IIT grad who took his degree in the cap.

And I thought, “when Anna is willing to die for the future of my children, can I not wear his cap?” So I wore the Anna-Gandhi cap, with the same pride which it had in the days of the freedom struggle. No one said anything.

And I thought back to my growing years when this freedom cap had become a politician’s vote-seeking costume. I am happy that by Annaji’s wearing it, it has gained dignity again.

And that is another gift he has given us. He has taken the symbols of freedom struggle back from the politicians and given them back to us. He has given us back the National Flag.

Thank you Annaji. Long Live Annaji!
