Current Affairs : Anti-Corruption : Anna Hazaare : Tapas, Dharma : Conversations with my Veda Guru
This morning I was lucky to catch my Veda Guru on the telephone for 45 min and I urgently asked her some questions that were kicking around in my head.
Is Annaji an Avataar?
What is tapas ?
- Naama Japa (Chanting God’s name)
- Mouna (Silence)
- Fasting
- Brahmacharya
- Chintana (Thought)
Samaaja (Society) or Paramaatma (God) – which Dharma is higher?
She said that they are nearly equal.
Samaaja Dharma requires us to forego svArtha (self-interest) for the sake of others (parArtha) and that is the first and most important step even in spiritual pursuits.
Her guruji held that paramArtha (Ultimate-Cause) was the highest.
While Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was capable of spending 24 hours in Bhagavad Chintana and Bhagavad Anubhava, most other people can only do this for a fixed time everyday. So for others, Vivekananda Kendra says spend what time you can in spiritual pursuits (AtmanO mOkSArtham) and the rest of your time in social service (jagat hitAya).
Which Dharma should I follow in her view?
She said she cannot say. The urge will come from inside and that is what I will have to follow. My son said that my research on AncientIndians and Vedic Studies is invaluable and of lasting value and Anna’s call is the need of the hour. Both my guru and son say that I should first get healthy so that I can follow either path. So they vote for some discipline lifestyle on my path, yoga and all. I feel that if I do yoga and get healthy I can move from Squirrel Support to Vanara Support. So yes that is definitely a priority. But at the moment my mind is drawn to Anna a lot of the time.
Will Annaji Win?
Cosmic Law says that satyamEva jayatE, dharmamEva jayatE! So it is clear that Annaji will win, since he is fighting the adharma of corruption and standing for the dharma.
My rambling thoughts :
I feel very happy. I have shed so many tears for the country and the sad things that have happened here. There was a time when looking at the flag was all it took to make me burst into tears. And now I am filled with optimism that my country will not only come out of the mess we are in but also show the way as well as a ray of hope to other countries. My mother is very hopeful that if corruption ends, India will be a rich and prosperous country.
I really liked Prof. Manmohan Singh’s speech yesterday. I know he is a good man, who helped us dig our way out of the financial crisis we were in. But his s’akti is buddhi s’akti. He does not have jana s’akti or tapas s’akti. So he has been helpless as bhrASTAchAr s’akti grew stronger and stronger.
But Annaji’s speech was superlative. Every simple word worth hearing many times and memorising. He has brahmacharya. He has karuNa (compassion) for the poor.
He has tapas’ sakti. My guruji says that tapas s’akti is needed behind every leader or movement. She always encourages me to do tapas.
The smell of roasted corn is sufficient for me to break any fast. My mind is as focused as a drunken monkey on hot coals. I am extremely talkative. I am always looking for reasons to skip yoga or evening walks. At this time I can’t even see myself beginning to do tapas. I think I should try short intervals to start with and then increase them day by day, bit by bit.
Annaji makes me feel very young, like I am just starting life and there is so much that I can and must do.
Long Live Annaji! Jai India! Jai Bharata Mata! Vande Mataram!
