Current Affairs : Anti-Corruption : Team Anna : Prashanth Bhushan
I like the clarity with which Prashanth Bhushan speaks and am very grateful for his role in this movement – his contribution to a clean future for our children.
Wikipedia has this to say about him :
“ Prashant Bhushan (born 1956) is an Indian lawyer[1] and social activist. He is the son of eminent lawyer Shanti Bhushan. He Lives in Noida. He is an activist who helps people through the judiciary system. In his career of 15 years he has worked on around 500 PILs (Public interest Litigation). He is a strong supporter of a Clean Judiciary. He studied in IIT Madras, which he quit after a semester in Mechanical Engineering. He studied economics and then philosophy (of science) at Princeton. [3]“
Too much! What intelligent, accomplished and dedicated people we have in this country!

This article gives some more details about him : http://www.firstpost.com/politics/2gs-dabangg-man-prashant-bhushan-6921.html. A few main points below.
Prashantji never accepts an unjust case. (Does it remind you of Gandhiji?)
“The name Bhushan is synonymous with fear for corrupt judges, politicians, bureaucrats and now corporate honchos,” says a top Supreme Court lawyer.
“If he has taken up your case, then it means that he is convinced of your innocence and will fight tooth and nail to prove it,” the lawyer adds. “His contemporaries also acknowledge that Bhushan refused to charge a penny for the needy and won their cases.”
“Bhushan has worked on 500 public interest litigations (PIL) in a career span of 15 years and the figure has only grown over the last few years. Many say that he has inherited this streak for justice from his renowned father and India’s former law minister Shanti Bhushan, who has been named on the panel for the Jan Lokpal Bill.”
“Many high-profile cases have seen the appearance of Bhushan. These include the Niira Radia tapes, Narmada Bachao Andolan, Bofors, the contempt of court case against Arundhati Roy, Enron, the Right to Information Act, and the oil companies disinvestment case.”
This site has the following to say : http://www.beyondbhopal.org/component/content/article/168-prashant-bhusun
“Inherited refined qualities, like his father as both have fought public interest cases without money — If there is a conscience in the Indian judiciary, he represents it, among the few who still believe in judicial justice. Acidic when arguing against Supreme Court judgements which go so terribly wrong, or on contempt, he has the guts to do to what he thinks is right. The India nation needs many more intellectual lawyers like him, who can stake their best against a no-win situation.”
Together with Santosh Hegde, he is one of the architects of the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Thank you Prashanthji!!
