Current Affairs : Anti-Corruption : Anna Hazaare : Where Purity meets Common Purpose

Annaji gave these five principles for anyone wishing to be like him.

  • shudh aachar : Pure behavior
  • shudh vichaar : Pure thoughts
  • tyyag : giving up, renunciation, self-sacrifice
  • apmaan sahaney ki shakti : ability to tolerate insults
  • apne jeevan mein koi daag na ho : A spotless life.
I remember one more : a match between your words and actions : Integrity.
When we tell someone to stop being corrupt, they sling mud at us. Are you so pure? They ask us.
  • In my reckoning only Annaji can truthfully say yes.
  •  The rest of will show up in various shades of gray.
  • All of us have willingly or unwillingly succumbed to some forms of impure thoughts, words and deeds, have told some lies (white or black), half-truths, we have gone back on our words sometimes and nearly everyone I have ever met is very egoistic and can happily dish out insults, but cannot brook the slightest criticism, let alone insults. As far as spotless lives go, we are dalmatians! :)

And yet all of us would love to breathe pure air, drink pure water, eat unadulterated food… We would all like to be treated by doctors who are skilled (not those who have got degrees by copying, mugging or bribing). We want our houses, bridges and flyovers to bee built of good materials using a good design. We would like to deal with honest people and not tricksters. Even our politicians would like to go on safe flyovers I imagine! And would like their planes to be safely built!! And definitely no one likes cancer that wonderful consequence of radioactivity and atom bombs.

So though we are not perfect yet, we all can try to be better every day, so that one day, our society itself is very pure. This will also have good consequences for all the other living things that share our planet – birds, flowers, whales and all the rest.

Purity! Purity! Purity!

I am sure our politicians also would like to wander free under the sun with out security or air-conditioning and be greeted everywhere with warmth, recognition and respect, not sycophancy, hypocricy and back-biting. May be Sri Sri Ravishankar or someone like him can prevail upon them.

Guruji says that Krishna is giving everyone the exact next lesson that they need to become purer and approach Him. We need not worry much about others, only see if we are using our life events as opportunities to become purer!

A common purpose!

I have often read that only a common purpose or  a common enemy can unite people. Many people say, “Why is it that Annaji could mobilise so many people against corruption? Why not against all the other problems we suffer from? Why is it that people support Annaji and not my specific cause?”

The reason is common purpose. Did we know about or help Annaji as long as he was dealing with problems of Ralegaon Siddhi? Not at all!

It was when he stood up for a problem that all of us face and are fed up of, that we backed him.

The unity of purity and common purpose!

In the person of Anna Hazaare, when where purity and common purpose combined together.. a lot of jana s’akti came behind to help him.

Of the 120 crore people in India, 1.3 crore people have registered their support for India Against Corruption.
