Current Affairs : Anti-Corruption Movement : Is our government trying to scare people?
As soon as Annaji broke his fast, most people went back to their lives and their ways. Since then the govt. has been targeting Team Anna one by one, with privilege notices, IT-Notices, doctored CDs, videos and so on.
The message we got with the RamLeela Maidan, when the police beat up sleeping people, was that “we will beat you up and lock you up if you protest.” (During Yoga Guru Ramdev’s protest yoga camp.)
When the government arrested Annaji the people were ready and they went and parked outside Tihar Jail. Anna had to be beseeched by the government to come out and the government was forced to negotiate with Annaji about terms.
During the ten day fast, the govt. and Team Anna said things about each other. People said things about both of them, for and against. Media Channels took sides. Took Stances. Many people thought that Anna’s team spoke the truth and that the government was lying. The horrors of the Emergency were on everyones’ minds but on no ones’ lips. Today’s new voters were not born during the emergency.
But the Govt. got off with an apology and Team Anna is preparing to go to jail.
When Annaji called off his fast, people hoped to see some warmth, some love and some change on govt. attitudes. After all they are our favorite people. People who we voted for and trusted with power. Surely they understand that we are tired of corruption in this country.
Then we came to see the face behind the government, with narry a smile, forget a warm and loving heart that beats for India. A man who does not have that inclusive warmth and give and take that mark an Indian. That an Indian looks for, demands, and gets, in another Indian. We saw a cold foreigner disconnected from us.
It was evident to India that the govt. behaviour just reflects the moods and nature of this person. All the bland non-commital-ness from this great grand son of the supremely warm and human Nehru, who wrote the book “Discovery of India”. Chacha Nehru who was our hero, our darling. This is the grandson of Indira, who was as strong as she was emotional. Dominating, often wrong, but when she yelled Jai Hind from RedFort and we heard it on independence day (on the radio), we all echoed Jai Hind in our hearts.
India now knows that our bland govt. is reflecting our unemotional leaders. Unemotional in India is unacceptable. Look at the warmth and trustable simplicity of Annaji and his love for India… and the following that it generated!
India opened up her heart to her leaders and explained what was eating her alive. And the rulers responded blandly and targetted those who had the guts to be the voice of the people.
There is an IT-Notice slapped on Arvind Kejriwal for nine lakh rupees. You can see the details in the embedded scribd document. People are planning to collect 9 lakh rupees in one re coins to help pay up the money on Arvind’s behalf. They are trying to tell the govt. some thing!
The govt. is saying. “Be scared. Be very scared. Oh subjects! We are supreme!”. And people are saying, “You are corrupt to the point of our extinction. Between corruption, taxes and inflated food prices (courtesy world bank) we are dying here! But we don’t want to hurt you. We want you to understand our pain and change your natures. This is not France. It is India. Please change the corrupt order of things. Please include us in the law making process. Please be accountable. But above all please be warm and understanding and speak from the heart like our Manmohan Singhji and Sushma Swarajji!”
People are also planning up to set up little societies to help uneducated people get work done with out bribes.. like Kejriwal’s parivarthan to fight corruption in places like cemeteries and hospitals and other places.
