Vishnu : The Nature of Vishnu (Brahman, Brahma, Siva)

I made the following notes from Adi Sankaracharya‘s commentary on the Vishnu Sahasranamam. This is just one bit, the work is very vast.

Upanishads say this universe is Vishnu. This universe is Purusha . He created the universe and entered it. They also say that everything dissolves into him at pralaya.

Vedas say Vishnu is yagnya. We must understand the name of Vishnu and repeat them for enlightenment.

Upanishads say that viSNu is the self of all beings.

Mahabharatam says that he makes beings complete and perfect by filling them up and dwelling within.

Upanishads say Vishnu is Brahma and Vishnu is Siva. Therefore to worship one is to worship all. Therefore to worship one is to worship all.

Brahmasutras say that Vishnu is the one who gives us the fruits of our karma.

Upanishads say that He is the Master of all.

Upanishads say that the Rg Veda and Yajur Veda are the breath of That Great One.

He is beyond all axioms, logic and other forms of knowledge which are useful in the world as we perceive it. Upanishads say that speech and mind return without grasping Him.

Upanishads say there is no thinker other than He.

Upanishads say that He is eternal, auspicious and undivided. (achyuta).

kRS is bhUvAcaka and Na is nivRtti vAcaka. He is both ie Krishna. – Mahabharata

He is prANasya prANah. The life of the life ie mukhya prANa – upanishads.

Mahabharata says that Madhava is to be known by silence, contemplation and yoga.

Gita and Upanishads say there is none better than him.

He knows what has been done and he is what has been done. KRtagnya, kRtih.

Upanishads say pragnyAnam brahma. Brahman is conscoiusness.
