Abhyasa : dhyAna after a long time

leave a comment »

Today I could sit for dhyAna after a very long time. The feeling was of Hanuman, health, strength, devoted service, purity and knowledge.

Patanjali distinguishes between dhAraNa and dhyAna.

dhAra is flow. dhAraNa has been translated into english as concentration. I think it may be holding one thought.

dhyAna is paying attention. You can pay attention to a lecture or to your task at hand.

In this context, dhyAna is paying attention to the inner state.

( I have written a detailed article on meditation which you can locate using the right side bar if you like.)

yOgi hRd dhyAna gamyam is viSNu. He is the goal that yogis seek when they pay attention to their heart.

There are many ways to meditate – you can find Krishna’s method in the Gita.
