Abhyasa : dhyana and vishnu sahasranama
One of my uncles told me that Vishnu Sahasranama is mostly applicable to Siva too.
So a few days back I read it with Siva in mind and it is a beautiful experience. And today I read it with Indra and Agni in mind. That was wonderful too. Of course it helped since I know a little Sanskrit. The same epithet/attribute takes on new and good meanings depending on the deity in one’s mind.
I think this is because, we have definite physical or saguNa attributes in our mind regarding different deities, even though we know that all deities are One in Reality.
Today’s dhyana : I started with paying attention to the spot between my brows as Krishna teaches in the Bhagavad Gita. And then I turned my attention to different points along the spine, the throat and the heart etc. It had discernible different effects at each point. These are not the formal chakras, but somewhere in their region.
I not only felt a total internal glow but understood the truth about an important relationship. And I had the courage to be truthful.
I practiced saying Rama’s name in my head as I swept the road in front of the house (this is a difficult task for me, because of back pain, but all Hindu women do it as a general rule), and it made the task very pleasant.
On housework Kunda Guruji and I have different views. I think doing manual house work is purifying. Eg we are advised to bathe before prayer because bodily s’uci or cleanliness aids in manas s’uddhi or purity of mind. Similarly I think cleaning our surroundings, home etc, also leads to citta s’uddhi or pure consciousness.
Guruji feels that I ought to spend more time in spiritual pursuits and vedic studies and yoga and I should delegate house work.
