Hollywood movies made for India have all flopped so far.
Americans are used to immigrant Indians, who are on their best guest behaviour, hiding their pride and anger and demonstrating only compliance and tolerance.
They don’t watch lagaan or super.
They don’t know how Indian Indians perceive themelves and others. They have begun to know what American blacks think of American whites.
They know their saintly immigrants and the servile call center operators who are giving them the customer is king treatment.
So Hollywood movies like chandni chowk to china, anaganaga oka dheerudu, and one other rascalaa rajendra prasad movie were flops in India.
Where magadheera is watched million times, a pure chandamama katha, siddharths’s disney movie is hard to watch even once.
Even ‘eat,pray,love’ was all about Julia Roberts learning things from every other nation and nationality and helping a helpless Indian girl!
Give me aamir khan, upendra and pavan kalyan (o pilla nee peru malli) any day.
Btw hollwood movies made for americans and top gear made for brits are huge hits in India. It’s what they make for us that’s unpalatable.
And the other genre – poverty voyeurs are also irritating. You robbed us at gunpoint, hold a nuke to our heads in all commercial treaties, consume the planet like locusts and now go around with cameras registering shock at the slums that are your creation, your fault!
And you think, that we will pay for your view! You don’t understand Indians and what we think or feel. Or what makes us tick!
But we like your representation of yourselves in Hollywood! That’s why english hollywood movies sell in India. Don’t bother making movies for Indians though.
