There are 1117 sUktAs in the Rg vEda and another 11 sUktAs called the vAlakhilya sUktas bringing the total to 1028 sUktAs in all in the s’Akhala s’Akha.
Other than this there are 36 khila sUktAs.
The khila sUktAs are not part of the s’Akhala s’Akha, but they have to be studied because they belong to some other s’Akha.
The famous s’rI sUkta, rAtri sUkta and others are included in this.
Each paris’iSTa sUktam has to be included in a specific place in the samhita chanting.
For eg s’rI sUktam has to be chanted at the end of the fifth manDala. mEdhA sUktam after the 10th manDala – 151. And so on.
