People are afraid to say aham brahma asmi.
They feel its kind of arrogant to think of oneself as the param brahman!
The fun is that no ahankAri can ever think that he is the brahman.
An ahankAri identifies with his or her body-mind.
An advaitin does not!
An ahankAri thinks of themselves as the karta and the bhOkta, the doer and the enjoyer.
An advaitin does not!
An ahankAri wants possessions and credit and comforts.
An advaitin does not care about possessions or fame or comfort.
An advaitin can see the same Is’vara in all and does not feel superior to others or inferior.
An ahankaari is conscious of the pApam and puNyam of himself and others. In fact a man who calls himself a sinner is the worst ahankaari of them all! He sees the others around him as even greater sinners.
An advaitin can say aham brahma asmi without the slightest trace of arrogance – for it is the simple truth.
The ahankAri cannot accept this.
Thus an ahankaari can never identify with the brahman and say aham brahmAsmi.
ahankAra is the opposite of aham brahma!
