Much of our communications are crossed communications.
People respond to ideas with emotion and to emotions with thoughts.
They respond to jokes with pontification and to facts with fabrications.
They respond to love with lectures.
They see inner meanings in plain statements and take deeply significant statements literally.
They respond to one thread of a conversation with an irrelevant thread of their own.
The problem is that the same words are used by all people in all disciplines but mean completely different things.
People who have no idea what you are saying are quick to agree with you and then go on and reveal that they are thinking about something else entirely!!
Words!
