Lakshmana was Sri Rama’s devoted younger brother who followed him voluntarily into the forest for 14 years giving up all pleasures of a royal life and leaving behind his own young wife. While Sri Rama had 3 younger brothers, the title of Ramanuja, the younger brother of Sri Rama generally refers to Lakshmana alone. Lakshman Jhula referes to the rope bridge that Lakshmana crossed when he went finally to meditate. Today there is a suspension bridge there. Devotees touch it to their eyes before they cross the bridge.
